Bedtime Stories

I really like it when mummy or daddy read to me. But they can't always manage to do it very well as I am usually quick to fall asleep.

I think that my favourite so far are the Winnie the Pooh stories as they have very strong characterisation.....I can especially identify with Piglet. The Peter Rabbit books are also great but they are a bit too long so I always miss the ending. And when they are read to me over two nights, I completely forget what happened the night before.

Daddy has started reading George Orwell to me and I think that it could be interesting but we haven't got past the introduction yet. This is all about the writer and something called socialism against the backdrop of World War 2. I don't know why as I expected a story about animals, maybe daddy has got it wrong.

Outings

Well, just before my second (week) birthday, mummy and daddy decided to take me out of the house for the first time.
Everything was a bit noisy, while mummy and daddy seemed particularly strange and jumpy.

On Wednesday night, we all got into daddy's car and went up the road. I thought that it was all good fun but mummy didn't seem too happy. Then we went into a shop. while a man that I had never seen before put me down against a white screen and then flashed bright lights into my face. He seemed nice but the flashes were horrible. Don't know what was going on but I heard my daddy agreeing to return next day to pick up some pictures. Odd. Then daddy came back to the car later with something hot in his hand....it smelled a bit like my nappies can do sometimes, but I think that it was OK as they ate it later.

Next day, we went back to the hospital that I was born in. There were Korean babies everywhere, who were really loud and I didn't like them too much so I just decided to sleep. I am a bit worried because they were all really huge and I am wondering whether I will also be very fat like them.

The nurses were very kind and told me that I was very healthy and all was well. Afterwards I had to give some blood and have an injection, which I did not like at all, although I tried not to cry too much. I think that we will have to go back there quite soon again. Daddy got a parking ticket and so he will have to go into the proper carpark next time.

That's all for now........time for more milk

My usual position when Im given my arms back

Lila and my first date

First Love

It has been a pretty successful first week I think. Mummy and Daddy seem pretty happy with my efforts in all areas really. Eating, Ive got down pat - who wouldn't love it, all I have to do is lie there and gaze at my mummy for a while and she seems happy. She seems even happier when I let out one of my super dooper sounds, either end she doesn't seem to mind. She says ' Good boy Jasper' so I figure its pretty easy to keep her on my good side....

Last night I had an interesting experience. Mummy and Daddy's friends came around with their baby = baby Lila I think was her name and she seemed very worldly. Her daddy kept telling her that this was the closest she was ever going to get to a boy again but to be honest it was all a bit of a fuss over nothing. I let them think I was sleeping and I just lay there and kept quiet while they talked about arranged marriages and girly things like that. To be honest it wasn't much of a first date with all the mummies and daddies there as well but maybe that's how it is done in Korea? I'm not sure anyway I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror this morning when Mummy was burping me and I must say, I'm filling out nicely and if I don't say so myself i do have lovely lips and cheeks. Until next time...

Poo

Hello everyone, Jasper here.
I am a very good pooer and can do as many as 10 per day.
Yesterday was my finest pooing hour as I managed to trick mummy into taking my nappy off. She didn't know that I wasn't quite finished. Until I did. She made a very funny noise as my poo leapt satisfyingly off the changing table. There seemed to be lots of commotion and moving of things and her friend Mel even had to help.
I can't quite work out whether mummy liked it or not, but I will try it again sometime soon.

Just this morning I managed to catch her out again.....though I didn't see where it went.

First Week

More first week

Jasper is here

Well the moment we had been waiting for had finally arrived. Wait a minute.... that's not quite right. We hadn't been waiting for anything during the week of the 12th of September as nothing in particular was planned. I was in my 34th week and feeling tired but looking forward to the next five or so weeks of putting my feet up and organising last minute 'baby' things.

However Jasper had other ideas. Perhaps it was the impending All Blacks vs Australia - Tri Nations final in the weekend or perhaps he was saving me from the fact that he would have been a full term whopper! We shall never know but on Wednesday the 10th of September my waters broke VERY unexpectedly. A funny aside here.... Barny and I had been out for dinner with our neighbour David who was about to go on a business trip for four weeks. We had joked about Jasper's arrival date and I was adamant that Jasper would be born early, thus arriving before David returned from England. So a bet was made - dinner with all the trimmings, and off we went home. Well only half an hour later my waters broke and the fun began. That will teach David ( an Englishman) for making a bet with a competitive Kiwi!!

It soon became apparent at about 2am that I probably needed to go to the hospital then, rather than in the daylight so off we went to Soon Chun Hyang, the hospital 5 mins from our house. Coincidentally I had only just changed doctors and hospitals the day before! It was thought that possibly I would be on bed rest =-(eeekk!) for a couple of weeks but on Friday morning my doctor came in and said there was a slight infection so they would have to induce me. I was very upset with this as I had been planning as natural birth as I could but there you are. They injected me and bang off we went.I had gone from never feeling contractions to having them every 2-3 minutes. I did achieve a natural birth without having any pain relief but it was a very tough day. Jasper was born at 10.10 on Friday night, after 11 hours, labelled premature at 2.64kg but fighting fit. Everything working as it should and he was with me, in my room from the following lunch time until Wednesday when I went home.

Jasper was obviously meant to come early as he continues to thrive and grow daily. His particular hobbies at the moment , rugby aside, appear to be milking daisy the cow, filling landfills and dreaming blissfully in his hammock bed. Currently he is about to start work on the Korean alphabet, no simple ABC will suffice for this cherub. Needless to say Barny and I are completely besotted with the new addition to our family and you are all now doomed to endless conversations about our darling son forever more.

Stay tuned for the first pictures!
